ACCI offers a wide
range of cognitive lifeskills restructuring workbooks for youth and adults in English & Spanish.
Our training material is user-friendly and self-directed. Our workbooks are
based on the latest practices of cognitive restructuring. It
could be said that our programs are behavioral science classes on how to
overcome life's problems and be more successful.
Our workbooks are not
based on mental health priciples but are power-packed self-development courses.
The workbooks have three major goals - one: teach cognitive skills; two: change
distorted thinking; three: build self esteem. The LOC series of workbooks is
specifically designed for criminal offenders. However, the new youth (YCLC) and
the adult (CCLC) workbooks are designed for all people and agencies.

While the last 30
years have seen great advances in medicine and other related areas, there have
been few advances, up to now, in lifeskills instruction. Standard
lifeskills courses mostly teach physical skills like writing a resume, balancing a
checking account, etc. On the other hand, cognitive lifeskills teaches
techniques to overcome childhood abuse, worry, fear, false programming and other basic problems people encounter. If standard lifeskills work on people from outside in, cognitive
lifeskills works from the inside out.
The workbooks are
structured so that one unit builds to another. The workbooks are full
of role playing, homework assignments, chalk talk, cognitive thoughts, group
games and other useful teaching methods. They work in both the cognitive and affective domain, one
to confront and challenge, and the other to inspire and build confidence.
Our workbooks are
very economical, costing about $1.00 per counseling hour, but what they can
accomplish is worth thousands in terms of restructuring lives. What price would
people be willing to pay to get out of the swamp of despair, leave behind old
negativre thinking, and climb the mountain to fresh air and happiness?
Evaluations
Student, Chole, age 16, juvenile, minor consumption, Youth - Parent Cognitive Lifeskills for Home Study:
"Overall, this workbook was a positive experience. It forced me to examine my friendships and myself. Very time-consuming, but well worth it. Requires honest thought and showed me that there are a lot of people that have a pretty rough life. It taught me to be thankful for what I have. I plan in the future to think before I act and question my friendships. Do they really care about me or are they using me? I also need to stop caring about what other people think of me."
Student, Alexandra, age 16, juvenile, underage drinking, Youth - Parent Cognitive Lifeskills for Home Study:
"This program has made a tremendous impact on me. It provided a very informational, as well as motivational new aspect of life, in that it has helped me to forgive and forget my past, but move on to a better life where I can help and reach out to others and in turn, be happy. In order to avoid getting in trouble again, I plan on making all the good and right choices, serving God, being a leader, and surround myself with good people."
Student, Timothy, age 33, criminal offenses, Lifeskills Offender Corrections for Home Study:
"When I first received this book, I was sceptical. But the more I read and wrote the better it became. This workbook truly helped me in so many areas. The most important being, It all starts with me. This is so easily forgotten. PS, Will you send me info on more of this type of literature? I plan to go back to AA. Live a life of recovery. Take charge of my life."
Student, Fred, age 33, disorderly conduct, Lifeskills Offender Corrections for Home Study:
"To be honest, at first, I had trouble making myself sit down and take time out to get started on this workbook. But once I did get started, I found myself consumed by it. And when I wasn't working in the book, I found myself thinking about it, and even utilizing some of the techniques for my subconscious mind. I plan to work primarily on controlling my emotions, among other things."
